Let me explain…
Theology: The way you see God. Everyone has theology, rather good or bad.
I have been going through this journey of finding out internally how I see God. Especially with the Ebola outbreak and the rise of isis, I have been forced to. As a Christian I am continually told to pray, and I hear things like “signs of the end times” and “connections of current events to scriptures in Revelation”.
All of these things have had me asking myself how I truly see God. I believe this is a continual journey that doesn’t stop until the day we meet with him. Something I have continually struggled with is how the character and nature of God can be found in a ‘secular’ world. I recently listened to William Matthews podcast: Culture Shock. In this podcast he featured Christa Black. This was the first time I have ever heard her opinion of God and the World. Which completely opened my eyes because honestly it’s something I have been searching for. I’ll find myself continually asking God questions like “how do I serve my leaders and still obey everything you say?” “how can I listen to secular music and not be changed?” “why do I feel opposition when serving in the world and in the church?”
It all leads back to the whole Theology thing, the way we see God, defines the way we live our lives.
I have been raised in an environment where God doesn’t mix with school and everyday life. God is in the church and that’s all. I have been raised in an environment where I was told to be perfect, to have life all figured out and to not ask too many questions, but walking with God doesn’t look like any of the above.
Jesus is so beautiful. He says “If you have seen me, you’ve seen the Father.” The Father has made all things, he made people and he made emotions. Because we’re made in His image and He is emotional, he’s created love and choice and he puts us in the fire to be refined and made more beautiful. In the end the process is all beautiful. The art reflects the artist. so how is it that we look at the world… even as Christians and see nothing beautiful in it? … Do we know our Creator?
Something that stood out to me the most in the personality of Christa was how she sees through the eyes of redemption and she see’s the attributes of Christ all over the world. In secular music, in the people living in the cities of New York, L.A and London. She sees them as beautiful and can connect with them on a deeper level because she has a realization that Kingdom lives within her, so the atmosphere around her doesn’t determine her state of mind, she shapes the atmosphere.
As a dancer living in Las Vegas I have to understand this concept. That I don’t let the environment shape my heart. My heart shapes the environment around me. It’s ultimately the Spirit. Holy Spirit has fruits about him and as long as I am producing those fruits I am manifesting the Kingdom around me.
I seriously challenge every Christian don’t hide in the church. By saying that I DO NOT mean don’t go to church. As a Christian you NEED church… but don’t be afraid to leave the four walls. I say that because I once was. But the light is much brighter in the darkest of rooms. I believe God is establishing his kingdom here on earth. Where His people shape the world around them and bring Jesus into their work places and schools and cities. It’s as prophesied by Daniel:
